An operating system is essential for your computer to function. An operating system is the "mind" that causes the different hardware to function together. There are many other products that use operating systems. Computers are no longer the only product that needs an operating system. Smart phones, play stations, and TiVo have operating systems but they don't stick out like they do on a computer.
The operating system came about when 2 people realized that it would make running a computer easier and more user friendly. MS-DOS, the first real operating system, was developed by Bill Gates and his team of programmers at Microsoft. They were not totally sure that this was the best operating system, however. The MS-DOS operating system required a user to input manual commands, and many people found it difficult to learn to use the system.
Microsoft continued to develop the MS-DOS operating system in order to make it more accessible. They imagined a point and click application that would be accessible to everyone. They worked very hard and after this they were satisfied with the operating system they named Windows. It was an instant success.
Through time, Windows was made better by including extra features and this allowed a computer to be easier for everybody to use. Their operating system still exists as one of the more popular operating systems around even though it was originally programmed for an IBM computer.
It was easy to purchase but IBM didnt have a corner on the personal computer market. The man that founded this company, Apple, is Steve Jobs, the man that put out his very own computer system called Macintosh. The Mac system came with its unique operating system known as Mac OS.
In the older days of computers, Mac computers required a Mac operating system be created because they were unable to run the Windows operating system.
Mac operating system developed across time like Windows, with different updates along the way that made it simpler to utilize. The newest system of operating for computers with Mac is Mac OS X. Dealing with Mac computer has never been made so easy for everybody.
When choosing an operating system for your computer, you have many choices. While it's true that most computrers come pre-loaded with the Windows operating system that are sold today, which doesn't prevent you from choosing a different one that will meet your needs. In addition to Windows, Linux and other Unix based programs are also an option.
Using computers with an operating system makes the job so effortless. even children find it trouble-free to operate the computer by spot and hit know-how. The operating system is important to the computer. Without an operating system you would have trouble doing basic things like getting online, or even starting your computer.
